Kiteboarders Gather For Wind Festival

The 2009 Animal Windfest is set to challenge the waves and promote more the very exciting sport of kiteboarding. Contrary to popular knowledge that kiteboarding is an expensive sport, organizers tried a different approach for this year’s event. With the approachability and encouragement in mind, the event aims to encourage professionals, revisiting kiteboarders, and the new and young to participate in this year’s Animal Windfest event.

According to Gary Willingham, the events organizer, their first step in reaching out to water sports fan is through reduced entry fees. As compared to Pounds45 of last year, the entry fee for this year is Pounds35. And it includes a free vent shirt, free pasta lunch for two days and a 50% discount for the Saturday night part ticket. A fee of Pounds30 on the other hand is for participants who do not want to compete but would be there to get more on enhancing their skills through activities that were prepared. Christian Harris and Karin Nativel who are both internationally recognized British Kite Surfing Association (BKSA) trainers will provide training with racing and jumps. The fee will also cover a free event shirt, pasta lunch for two days and half the price ticket for Saturday’s party.

Here are the exciting events to watch out for in the 2009 Animal Windfest. Its main event is the race around buoys. The first buoy is set upwind of the starting line and the riders will have to navigate the buoy’s course to last for 20 minutes. Willingham shares that riders nowadays use specific equipment to battle wind strength of 8- 40 knots. With this, this one promises fun and exciting events to look forward to! In addition to the race, the event also offers “side-events” like free kite flying taster under the mentorship of instructors from The Watersports Academy and Easy Rider Kiteboarding. And the Saturday night of partying will serve as the closing ceremony for the event. You can visit their website to get more information on the Animal Windfest that will happen on September 11 to 13, 2009.

If there is one more reason to participate in this event, that would be the scenic Sandbanks Beach in Poole. Also known as Britain’s Palm Beach, the place offers wonderful waves, perfect winds and a beautiful and relaxing atmosphere. A place to stay during the event is also not a problem, as Sandbank has three beautiful hotels that offer comfort and style.

Pack your bags and head on those stores that offer a kiteboard for sale. Make your equipments ready and tone your skills in maneuvering that kiteboarding kite. See you in the Poole!
